Case Study
lancaster Mobley
Lancaster Engineering was growing and changing as a company.
They wanted a brand that reflects that.

Lancaster Engineering website, before rebrand
Lancaster Engineering has been working in the Pacific Northwest for 35 years. In the last decade, the company has gone through structural and transformative change. The company was bought by its most senior employee, and the transportation engineering field has evolved. The company needed to distance itself from the static, antiquated ways of the past. In the past, the company was content with business as usual. Now it is younger, more agile, and is widening its services offered.
As part of Phase 1 of the project, we carried out a series of interviews with the Principal, surveys of employees, clients, and colleagues, and competitive analyses to figure out exactly what is and isn’t working for their company.
After thorough research and analysis, we formed a vision for the new brand:
Logo
Lancaster Mobley’s new logo brings together the long history of “Lancaster Engineering” with the friendlier, more adaptable and well-rounded brand that “Mobley” brings to the table. The lowercase type is approachable, and the brighter and happier blue is both authoritative and personable.
The circular icon on the left hand side symbolizes how the new brand, offering a broader range of services and not pigeonholed into an “engineer” box, has become a stronger and more well-rounded brand, while managing a clean, streamlined company.

Website
Pain points identified in the research and discovery phase of the project pointed to a need for a new website. Some of these problems identified include the inability of clients to find relevant projects, a general lack of an online portfolio, an outdated look (which gave credence to them being perceived as an outdated company), and overwhelming blocks of text.
We found ways to address each of these pain points with a new website.
A portfolio of 20+ projects was built, combining project photos and descriptions, testimonials, and project tags that allow for current and potential clients to find projects suited to their specific needs. They can even browse and interactive map, which displays all of the Lancaster Mobley projects in the region.
Other features on the new website include:
- Resume/employee bio pages
- Job listings/career opportunities (found 2 of their employees)
- Online payment function (decreased number of outstanding payments from clients)
The new website is sleek, easy to use, ranks higher in Google search rankings from superior search engine optimization, and helps current and potential clients find what the need faster.

Images
Professional portraits and drone photos were used to document projects for their online portfolio. The new photos replaced the low-resolution, low contrast, dull photos of the previous website.
The new portraits invoke their field of work, showing them amongst the streetlights, parking, and infrastructure design that consumes their day.
The new brand called for bright, inviting, friendly photos.
